Education & Early Career
Robert trained at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), studying organ with Dame Gillian Weir, Ronald Frost and singing with Joseph Ward. He went on to study with Edward Brooks and Lyndon van der Pump at the Royal College of Music.
After graduating, he launched a successful career, appearing in opera productions throughout the UK and Europe with companies including Northern Ireland Opera, Kent Opera, Voltface Opera, Les Arts Florissants, and Opera Sicily.
He also performed major oratorio works with the London Mozart Players and Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, and appeared on many occasions with the London Pops Orchestra especially at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
As a recitalist he gave numerous performances with the pianist Malcolm Martineau, including the first recital for Arts of the Earth.

Teaching & Musical Direction
Robert has held senior positions at leading institutions including:
- The Urdang Academy - Head of Singing (1993 - 1996), Senior Singing Tutor (2006 - 2013), Singing Teacher (2022 -2024)
- Royal Holloway, University of London - The Musical Theatre Singing Teacher (2015 - 2024)
- London College of Music - Singing and Acting Through Song Tutor (2016 - 2022)
- King's College, London - Singing Tutor (2020 - 2022)
- Centre of Performing Arts - Singing and Acting Through Song Tutor (2013 - 2016)
- Elmhurst College of Ballet and Performing Arts - Head of Singing (1996-2002)
From 2002 to 2006, he worked in Spain and Mallorca as Musical Director on several major productions, including Tarzan (awarded best musical 2006) and Swan Lake The Musical.
Many of his former students now perform in leading West End and international productions. Robert's directing credits include West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Bugsy Malone, Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Mary Poppins, Oliver and The Wizard of Oz.

Director of Music
Robert has served as Director of Music at several prominent churches including :
- St John's Hyde Park, London (2007-2024)
- St John's Wood, London (1990-2002)
- St Cyprian's, Clarence Gate, London (1986-1990)
- St George's Cathedral, Jerusalem (1979-1980)
At St John's Wood, he had a professional octet and was asked by the BBC to oversee many high-profile memorial services. During his time at St John's Hyde Park, he directed eight singers who were post graduate or opera students from the four music conservatoires in London. He also founded the St John's Chamber Orchestra, composed of professional players from leading London Orchestras, led by Jonathan Hill.

Heritage Lottery Project Coordinator
Robert was the Heritage Lottery Project Coordinator for an £500,000 project to restore the historic organ at St John's Church, Hyde Park, London. As part of the work, he delivered a 129-activity plan that included school projects, lectures, exhibitions and a booklet. He initiated a competition for a new composition for choir and organ. and also commissioned a new organ concerto with orchestra.
Today
His home is Frankfurt am Main, Germany - where he has been since the beginning of 2024, building a life rooted in community and the German lifestyle.
